Our construction crews are steadily moving forward and making some major progress on the cabin renovations. The Cherokee cabins all have new walls and ceilings that look absolutely amazing. Having two toilets and two showers in every cabin sure will make things easier then back in the days when the whole Choctaw Village had to share one Bath House. The crews have also started to install the showers into the Chippewa and Chickasaw cabins; changes are happening so quickly! Check out some of the shots of the improvements as well as the saved names section in Cherokee 4.
Hope you’re getting as excited about camp as we are, and remember to comment and let us know what you think!
Once again Jack Frost himself has covered our lovely camp with white snow. This time we received about 6 inches of the white fluffy stuff and are truly enjoying it to the fullest. Here are some pictures of your home away from home covered in snow:
Also, even through the cold winter days our construction crews are moving along with enthusiasm. All of the Cheyenne and Choctaw cabins have their siding up, and the Cherokee cabins are getting their new inside walls. Cherokee 25 seems like a completely new building with a higher ceiling and open floor plans- these changes are so exciting! Here are a few pictures to show the updated construction with more to come soon.

Within the past few weeks, the construction crews have finished putting the new metal roofs on all the cabins and are now putting the siding on. They have finished the Chippewa and Chickasaw cabins and are now working on Cherokee Hill. They will eventually paint the cabins the same color as the new cabins added last year. Most the electrical and plumbing has been completed. They have slowed down a little because of the cold weather and all the snow. But they are still moving forward!
We’ve decided to keep a section open in each cabin so you can see old signatures from the past. Here’s what it will look like.
I know all you Floridians have been experiencing some cold weather recently. We are excited about next week because the weather channel is saying the temperature may actually reach 40 degrees! There is still quite a bit of snow left from the storm 3 weeks ago and the lakes are freezing over. It is unusual to see the Crestridge lake frozen because there usually isn’t any water in there. So savor these next few pictures!
Check back soon for more updates! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
As of 3PM today (Nov. 23), there are only 3 cabins that need a new roof along with the cabin extension. Those construction workers are just going so fast! There has been a lot of progress since the last Construction Blog. They have finished adding the roofs and extensions on all Cheyenne cabins and Choctaw 14. They are almost finished with the electrical work on Cherokee Hill. And they are finishing putting up the T1-11 in Chippewa 1 and putting the finishing touches on it. T1-11 is the wood that is going on the inside walls of the cabins. I know I keep saying this, but the cabins look so good!
They haven’t actually finished a cabin yet, but they are getting the major stuff done first before it gets too cold. Don’t forget, if you comment on any of our blogs, your name will be entered into our monthly drawing for a free store!
I’ll tell you what, those construction workers are fast! They have now finished the first phase on Cherokee Hill and started with the Choctaw Hill. It was quite a sight to see all four cabins with no roofs and no bathrooms. Again, it was confirmation that they really needed some work done!
They are now on Choctaw Hill removing the old roofs, the back walls, and the bathrooms. I’ll post pictures soon. I hope you all are enjoying the fall season. Can’t believe it’s already November, but we are looking forward to the holidays!
It seems that soon after we give an update, a lot more gets finished the next day. As of now, all the Chippewa and Chickasaw cabins have new roofs, new decks, and the new bathrooms framed. They are looking great! The decks are fully covered which makes them look even bigger. They have put the new showers in the cabins and also started on the plumbing in Chippewa 1. Check out the new pictures:
I’m not sure if you can notice any of the leaves in the background, but they sure are beautiful. I think the color is almost at it’s peak. It’s a great time to be in the mountains!
Almost two weeks ago, I informed you of the cabin renovations that had just started. Well today, they are working on their 6th possibly 7th cabin (Chip 1, 2, 3, Chick 4, 8, and 9). The construction crew has not completely finished one cabin, but they have started putting the new roof on and framed the new bathrooms. Take a look at the progress so far:
With taking out the roofs and bathrooms, there is a lot of trash. It’s pretty funny to see all the toilets, showers and sinks all piled up around the Dining Hall.
When the crew gets to the Cheyenne and Choctaw cabins, they will extend the cabins. They’ve already cleared a few trees and poured the footers for the extensions.
If you are interested in seeing more pictures, we have a Facebook Fan page that has an album designated for Cabin Renovation pictures. Keep checking weekly for more updates on construction and other things going on at camp!
This is our second year to do major construction at Crestridge. During the off season, our goal is to renovate the existing cabins. What a huge and exciting project! Starting within the next couple weeks, there will be a construction crew coming in to clear some land behind the Cheyenne and Choctaw cabins so they can extend the cabins. Then for every cabin they will replace all the floors, then the roofs, then onto moving the bathrooms, then building new decks and more. Eventually, all the existing cabins will look like the new ones we had this past summer. The cool thing is that we are not tearing the walls down but building around them. Unfortunately you will not be able to sign on the new walls, but the heart of the cabin will remain. We will be sure to post videos and pictures of the construction to show you the progress.
Did you think all the construction for the summer was finished? Well, not quite yet. We still have a few minor things left to build before the summer gets underway. One of those projects is a NEW ZIPLINE TOWER! The blob tower is new (2007 anyway) and we thought it only fair to rebuild the zipline tower. Check out the progress so far:
Keep checking back because you never know what will get built next!
Hopefully you’ve been keeping up with the posts on the new cabins, Bear Trap and dining hall. You’ve seen the latest pictures and are up to date on the news. Well, now we wanted to give you a 360 video tour of the buildings. The first clip is one of the new camper cabins. Everything is done, now it’s just waiting to be used by campers and staff.
The next couple clips are of the Bear Trap. The first one shows the downstairs offices. There’s a lot more organizing that’ll be done (both downstairs and upstairs) before everyone arrives, but you’ll get a feel for the place from the videos. During the summer, campers and staff can go in and out as needed on the this floor.
This shows the upstairs on the Bear Trap. It’ll house the staff lounge and VD office and because of that, only staff will be allowed upstairs during the summer.
And finally, a short clip of the dining hall with its new floor. It’ll look much different in a few short weeks. All of the tables and chairs will be moved back inside ready for mealtimes.
For those of you new to Crestridge, hopefully this will help you feel more familiar with the place on opening day. For you returning campers, I hope this makes you even more excited to be at Crestridge this summer!
