Ridgecrest Camps

Christmas Time is Here

December 22nd, 2009

Greetings from Ridgecrest Summer Camps!  I hope you were able to read our last blog about the Snow Storm here at camp.  By the time the snow ended, we had over a foot of snow!  It was absolutely beautiful!  Not much has melted so we are still enjoying the remnants.

Well, it’s Christmas time and we’d like to bring you another Norman Rockwell Christmas card.  Thank you Wayne for your talent and inspiration.

We hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

More New Skill Options?

March 20th, 2009

Last week I uploaded a couple clips showing some new skill options for camp.  Of course, when we thought of these skills it was in the middle of winter so they would really only work if camp stayed open year round.  Even though that’s not going to happen anytime soon, it was still fun playing outside in the cold and icy weather.

These two clips are a couple more options for new skills that we came up with.  The first one is a type of strongman competition.  Instead of a log or caber toss, how about an ice toss?  The person who can carry the biggest slab of ice and throw it the farthest wins.

Hayne, one of our local go-to guys, wins this round. For those of you might want to try this at home, wear gloves! Hayne’s hands were freezing and remember…safety first!

Now watch the boys intern, Stewart, try and make his way across the frozen lake in a canoe.

For those keeping a tally sheet, that makes:

1.  Ice Fishing

2.  Ice Disc Golf

3.  Ice Throwing

4.  Ice Canoeing

Which was your favorite?

New Skills?

March 12th, 2009

If you’re part of our facebook fan page, then you know that we’ve asked campers and staff what new skills they’d like to see this summer.  (If you’re on facebook and not a fan of the camp, then you need to be!).  The following clips are suggestions from us on what the new skills should be.  Watch the clips and tell us what you think.

And as you know, we here at Ridgecrest Summer Camps are all about safety first, so it would be the counselors who would cut the holes with the chainsaws…just as Stewart demonstrated.

How about Ron’s throwing arm?!?!  He might even be available to lead this skill if buttered up enough!

Okay, so you’ve probably figured out that these skills wouldn’t be plausible for the summer.  Back in January we had some really cold days where the lake froze over (about 4 inches thick) and we just had to take advantage of that since it doesn’t happen often!  What you watched is some of the crazy fun antics we here in the office came up with.  Check back next week to see a couple other clips of how we had fun with the ice and cold weather.

Camp Ridgecrest “Best of” Video Clips: 2008 Final Installment

March 9th, 2009

Well, that time has finally come…the last of the clips from summer 2008.  Now, don’t worry, we’ll still be adding pictures of the construction and videos of other various things.

Have you had a time in your life lately where you needed some good advice?  Well, I’m not sure if this first video would apply to any of your particular situations, but watch this clip and hopefully the nuggets of truth given will help you out in those moments of tough decision.

This next clip is another glimpse into staff week.  Here at Ridgecrest Camps we want not only the campers to have new and fun experiences, but the staff as well.  Watch this clip and see some of the guys taking one for the team!

Anyone hungry now?!?!

Camp Ridgecrest “Best of” Videos: Synchronized Swimming Part Deux

February 23rd, 2009

Last week I uploaded short video clips of two of the Arapho cabins showcasing their synchronized swimming talents.  Now it’s time to see the other two cabin entries!  Watch the videos below and catch just a glimpse of the fun that happens here at Ridgecrest during the summer.

What do you think…are they ready for the Olympics?

Camp Ridgecrest “Best of” Video Clips…You’re Gonna Want to Watch These

February 13th, 2009

Think synchronized swimming is for girls?  Well, some of the Arapaho guys proved that theory wrong this past summer.  There really are no words to describe these two clips.  Here in the office, we certainly enjoyed watching these…hopefully y’all will enjoy them just as much.  So as requested, here are two cabins showing us all the finer points of synchronized swimming!

Check back next week to see the other two cabin performances!

“Best of” Video Clips: Installment #3

January 15th, 2009

You’ve seen the best blobs, now it’s time for some slide action.  Some guys were more coordinated on the slide than others were…as you’ll see.  As for the second clip, some of the best memories from the summer for certain staff is always messy games.  It’s a great time for campers to cover their counselors (and vice versa) in ranch dressing, ketchup, relish, syrup, well, you get the idea.  MMMMM…messy games!

“Best of” Video Clips: Part 2

January 6th, 2009

The new year is here and with it comes new video clips!  The first video shows the staff getting down and dirty at staff week last year.  During that week the staff does a lot (and I mean A LOT) of cleaning but they also have lots of fun in between as you’ll see!  The second clip is various boys throughout the summer showing everyone some mad skills…there is never a wrong time to bust out with some killer dance moves!  Keep checking back for the next “best of” installment.

Ridgecrest’s “Best of” Video Clips

December 22nd, 2008

All right fellas, each week for your viewing pleasure a couple video clips will be posted that’ll make you bust a gut.  Okay, so maybe many of you won’t laugh quite that hard, but all of you will get a kick out of the footage.  These clips were compiled from stuff shot over the summer.  Some might be familiar to you, but mostly it’ll be things that didn’t make the session videos for one reason or another.  Check back each week to see the newest picks!

So, without further ado, turn the lights down, grab the popcorn and watch the clips below to enjoy some of the craziness that is Camp Ridgecrest!
