Cabin Renovations
After decades of memories and protection from wind, rain and Ratman, the Ridgecrest cabins that we love so dearly are scheduled for a facelift. The anticipated refurbishment / renovation of Camp's cabins has been in the plans for quite some time and has been fully embraced by Lifeway. Lifeway has pledged financial support to help in the renovation (and new construction where appropriate) of several of the facilities at both Ridgecrest and Crestridge in 2009-2011.
This past off-season, funds from Lifeway were used to construct one new cabin on Shawnee Hill and a couple of new cabins at Crestridge. Funds were also used for the addition to the dining hall and the construction of the new infirmary. Although bids have not yet been received, Camp estimates that refurbishment/renovation of a cabin at Ridgecrest could cost around Twenty Five Thousand ($25,000.00) Dollars. It appears that twenty-two (22) cabins at Ridgecrest are in need of some refurbishment / renovation. The refurbishment / renovation will include: updated lighting and electrical systems, outside and inside wall coverings, new roofs and redesigned rafters, upgraded ventilation and other improvements.
Although Lifeway has already contributed a sizable amount of money to the first Phase of the project, their ability to adequately fund the remaining project work is uncertain in the current economic climate. That's where we come in.
With the Chapel complete, Camp Ridgecrest Alumni & Friends is anxious to seek out a new opportunity to support camp. At the 2009 Summer Board of Directors meeting, the Board members voted unanimously to focus on fundraising for the cabin renovations in the coming year. The Board is working with Camp's staff to encourage alumni members to help support this important effort.
Individuals and groups interested in pursuing a naming and/or recognition opportunity (plaque on the cabin of your choice) will need to give $10,000 toward the effort. For those of us whose pockets are not so deep, a $100 contribution will allow your name to be added to a donor plaque in respective cabins.
