Rock-climbing Wall

What was a visionary conversation between Matt Cushing and Adam Hewitt one summer turned into the single largest expansion in Camp’s program since 1975 the next. As an act of faith, the fall following Matt and Adam’s conversation saw a small group of alumni come and brave asbestos laden roof shingles to tear the old shelter down with the hope that a new rock-wall would be resurrected the following spring in its place. More than doubling any previous year’s fundraising, the association was blessed with nearly $20,000 in contributions to make the OAP a reality. The following spring, more than twenty alumni helped build the expansive 60ft. rock-climbing wall which is the centerpiece for the OAP.

Low Ropes Course

With the success of the rock-climbing wall fresh on their minds, including that it came in $4000 under budget, the alumni decided to expand the OAP (Outdoor Adventure Program) by adding a low ropes challenge course to Camp’s program. Before the new course could be added, the old course had to be torn down. With the old course demolished the new course was erected in its place. It has been a staple of Camp and the OAP ever since.

Bouldering Bungalow

With the continued success of the OAP, the popularity of rock-climbing, and some creative thinking by Camp’s Administration, the infamous White House behind TBI was gutted by the alumni one fall and turned into indoor rock-climbing gym. With the Bouldering Bungalow in place, rock-climbing became Camp’s newest and one of its most popular skills.
