What We Do

- Newsletters are published twice yearly to keep members up to date on camp and alumnae activities and projects. Alums and friends are invited to share news with us by mail at the address below or .
- Maintain the Memories is an opportunity for all alums and friends to give back to camp in a tangible way. One weekend each May, all are invited to come to camp (lodging at the Conference Center is $35 per night) to work together to clean up and beautify the grounds. Much landscaping, cleaning and painting has been accomplished in these weekends. Many individuals and families have returned year after year and wouldn't miss the chance to reconnect with camp.
- Reunions are held every five years, concurrent with five-year anniversaries of camp. In July 2009, we celebrated the 55th summer of operation of Crestridge. Our next reunion is on the calendar for the summer of 2014. Information will be available on our Web site and in newsletters.
- Special Projects:
- One of our largest contributions is a two-level pavilion and deck located between the chapel and the gym. This structure was entirely funded by alumnae and friends' contributions, and was erected by volunteer labor supplied by Ridgecrest Conference Center over the fall and winter of 1998-99. It was dedicated to Willard K. "Daddy" Weeks at the 1999 reunion and has been a wonderful addition to camp life. A stone fireplace and chimney were added to the pavilion in the spring of 2003, funded chiefly by Ruth and Norvel Lee Burkett.
- When the new crafts building was constructed in 2002, the alumnae group covered the cost of a large deck, which expanded the workspace available.
- Renovation and expansion of the camp chapel was accomplished in time for the 2005 sessions through our "Reach for the Stars Campaign." This ambitious project added enough extra seating to ensure that the chapel can comfortably seat the entire camp and upgraded the lighting and the stage area.
- Finished just in time for 2006 campers to enjoy and nestled in a common area of Chippewa/Chickasaw Hill, a custom-made playground gives the youngest campers a place of their own for creative play.
- Construction began in September 2011 on our most ambitious project yet. A two-story building housing the camp store and the CCAF museum will provide adequate space for each, plus much-needed extra bathrooms. At a cost upwards of $150,000, this project is the result of the generosity of alums, friends, parents of campers, and Lifeway.
- Please visit the Special Projects section for more details about this and other projects.
- Scholarships for campers are provided by CCAF each year in memory of Arvine Bell, camp's first director, who died in March 1994. The number of scholarships given depends upon the amount of donations received. Early in CCAF's history, we were able to provide at least two full 2-week scholarships per summer; since 2001, we have reached our goal of $12,000 each year to help campers attend who would otherwise not have been able to. Preference is given to applicants with some tie to alumnae and friends.
- Scholarship Endowment Fund: The CCAF Board of Directors voted at its fall 2007 meeting to establish an endowed scholarship program to create a perpetual fund where the annual interest and income would provide camper scholarships. This fund is separate from our annual scholarship drive and is invested through the Southern Baptist Foundation. Our ultimate goal is to invest enough to provide at least 12 full scholarships each summer. To do that, we would need at least $500,000. A lofty goal, indeed, but an everlasting gift to Crestridge. Endowed scholarships may be named upon receipt of $10,000 in donations. To date, three named scholarship have been established: one in honor of longtime camp friends Sallie Garvin Driggers and Willa Stevenson McGimsey, given by Sallie's parents, Abbott and Eddie Lou Garvin; one in memory of Judye MacMillan, provided by her friends and relatives; and one in memory of camper Maggie Lee Henson, who tragically died as a result of injuries from a bus crash in 2009.
